What is an Intranet? What is an Intranet? An Intranet is like a mini-internet inside of a company, where
only the staff in the organization can get access to the information. What benefits do I get from an Intranet? One of the biggest benefits is the managing of information inside
an organization and how this information becomes available to the people who need it when
they need it. How will it save me time? The best part about an intranet is that it keeps people more
informed and it takes less time then traditional means of managing information. For
example, E-mail is fine, but it is practically impossible to get across everything in one
e-mail. It's great for a short message, but not for an update of everything that has
happened in the last month or the past year in the department. What about security features?A well designed intranet structure includes features such as
firewalls so that no outsiders can access the information on the server and to prevent
information to leak outside the network. Also, group accounts are established with
authenticity through passwords so that only specific individuals have access to sensitive
information, etc. How much would it cost me?Very little, in fact, most probably any typical company already
has what is needed to create an intranet structure. All is needed is a dedicated computer
to be configured as the main server, a person to maintain the system and training for the
entire staff. How can XeBIT help?We can help with the following:
